Cattle Down Midway in Short Session

Live cattle futures are 20 to 55 cents in the red at midday. Feeder cattle futures are firm to a nickel higher on Friday. The 11/24 CME Feeder Cattle Index was $137.30, up 18 cents from the previous day. The USDA Export Sales report showed a net reduction of 15,543 MT of beef export sales, with most of that from South Korea. Shipments were still a solid 20,222 MT, the third largest this MT. Sales for 2021 were also net negative for the week. Wholesale boxed beef prices were mixed in the Friday AM report. Choice was down $1.21/cwt, with Select up 4 cents/cwt. A few cash trades were reported at $111 earlier on Wednesday, with northern sales of $174 in the beef. USDA estimates weekly to date cattle slaughter through Wednesday was 360,000 head, up 1,000 head from last week. Most plants were dark on Thursday.
